8 easy-to-do exercises, especially thought for coders

Sedentary jobs can play havoc with your health. That is why it is important to do some form of exercise, if possible, every single day. Here are some easy exercises you can do from the comfort of your home to burn calories and keep fit.

1. Sit-ups

An oldie but a goodie. Aim for 20 to start and work your way up to 50. If you’re a beginner (or terribly unfit), tuck your feet under a chair or table for assistance.

2. Jumping Jacks

This exercise gets your heart rate up. Make sure to raise your hands over your head each time, and keep it going for at least one minute.

3. Lunges

Start standing with your feet parallel. Take a big step forward with your right leg, landing with your knee bent and over your toes. Allow your back knee to drop down toward the floor while swinging your left arm forward for balance. Push off your right front foot to return to standing. Do two sets of 10 on each side.

4. Weight training

Weight training can help you build strength and promote muscle growth, as well as lose calories. Furthermore, studies have shown that your body continues to burn calories many hours after a weight-training workout, compared with aerobic exercise

5. Yoga

Although it’s not commonly thought of as a weight loss exercise, it burns a fair amount of calories and offers many additional health benefits that can promote weight loss.

6. Pilates

Did you know that a person weighing around 64 kg) would burn 108 calories at a 30-minute beginner’s Pilates class? If you’re a beginner, there are plenty of guided tutorials online.

7. Squats

Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart and lower your hips. As you bend your knees, your thighs should be parallel with the floor. Ensure your knees don’t go beyond your toes and keep your chest up and look straight ahead. Stand back up to start position and repeat. This is a great way to lose inches from your thighs, but it is also great to lose overall body weight.

8. Skipping

Skipping is a full body aerobic workout, which helps in muscle toning and melts the fat away. Start with 10 minutes of skipping in a day, and then increase the duration.
