Malta Calendar of Events for October 2019

Here is a sample of the many cultural and artistic events taking place on the Maltese Islands during October 2019.

 

1. FESTIVAL: MUSIC+ FESTIVAL

The Classique Foundation will be presenting the second edition of the festival MUSIC+ on the 1 October. This festival will include recitals by top international and local artists, masterclasses in clarinet, violin and piano, talks, workshops for primary school children and an opera written for children. 2. ART: Vietnam Art

Delve into the world of 90’s Vietnamese art: the time when Vietnam ‘opened its doors’ to the world. In the exhibition, you will find lacquer-ware, stone carvings, pottery, to figurative art paintings. Until 6 October at ArtHall in Victoria, Gozo. 3. MUSIC: Radio Italia Live

On 4 October, a group of famous Italian singers will be coming to Malta for the third edition of Radio Italia Live – Il Concerto, part of Mediterranean Stars Festival, to perform on The Granaries in Floriana. Alessandra Amoroso, Gigi D’Alessio, Elisa, Emma, Francesco Gabbani, Guè Pequeno, J-Ax, Mahmood, Max Pezzali, Raf and Umberto Tozzi will perform at the event. Entrance if free of charge. 4. THEATRE: Certified Male

Hit comedy Certified Male to be staged by Exit Stage Right stars actors Alan Montanaro, Alan Paris, Joseph Zammit and Stephen Oliver star in Australian hit comedy Certified Male. Written by Scott Rankin and Glynn Nicholas, the play is directed by Nicholas, as well as celebrated local director Nanette Brimmer. 5. FESTIVAL: Notte Bianca

For one special night every October, Notte Bianca lights up the Valletta cityscape with a spectacular celebration that is open to the public free of charge. On 5 October. More information from: https://www.festivals.mt/nottebianca

 

6. FESTIVAL: Birgufest 2019 - Birgu By Candlelight

Birgufest 2019 is a celebration of culture and art, which will be taking place in Birgu (also known as Vittoriosa), one of Malta's oldest and most historic cities. From 11 to 13 October. More information from: https://www.facebook.com/birgufest

 

7. MUSIC: La Boheme

Teatru tal-Opra Aurora presents Giacomo Puccini’s 4-act opera La Bohème. The passionate, timeless, and indelible story of love among young artists in Paris, can stake its claim as the world’s most popular opera. At the Aurora Opera House in Vitoria, Gozo on 12 October. 8. MUSIC: Necrodeath

Italian black/thrash metal legends Necrodeath for the first time in Malta with support from the Greek old-school death metallers of Obduktion. Two more local bands will complete the final lineup. 9. THEATRE: Under Milk Wood

One of the funniest modern British comedies, Under Milk Wood by Dylan Thomas, is also renowned for its stunning language, extraordinary townsfolk and universal themes that have made it an international favourite. Moonlight Theatre's cast is from South Wales and the play's director, John Rhys Thomas,has already taken Milk Wood on tour to New York, Harvard and Canada to great acclaim. 10. EXHIBITION: Maltex Philatelic Exhibition and Collector’s Fair 2019

MaltaPost will be once again hosting the Maltex Philatelic Exhibition and Collector’s Fair at the Casino Maltese in Valletta from 22 to 24 October. The event will display some of Malta's finest philatelic collections as well as unique exhibitions of private collectors. Entrance is free of charge. 11. THEATRE: Séance

Dr. Thomas Charles Craig: Séance is a one-hour live, interactive, theatrical experience that blends historical fact, psychological illusion, misdirection, and history into a seamless and unforgettable supernatural audience adventure.
