5 reasons to become a software developer

Are you considering a new career path? Or in the midst of studying to be a developer and wondering if you made the right choice? In case you have any doubts, here are 5 reasons to give some serious consideration to becoming a software developer!

1. There is always something new to learn

One of the key parts of being a software developer is problem solving. This means that every day, every project, and every task is a complex challenge that you need to figure out and ultimately solve whilst keeping to a deadline. You also need to keep up with industry changes and trends as well as new technology that will burst onto the scene on a regular basis, just to keep you on your toes. Being required and expected to learn every day can be very tiring or very exciting but which of those it is, really depends on your mindset.

2. You will never be out of a job

The chances of being a developer and finding yourself without a job are slim to none. Good developers are always in high demand and whilst the top jobs in the biggest companies may be a little bit out of reach, you can always count on smaller businesses crying out for talent.

Whether you want to be a part of a team or work from home on a self-employed basis, there will never be a shortage of people looking for quality developing.

3. You can work from wherever you want

Whether you are a seasoned remote worker or someone looking for a job with a bit of flexibility, software developing can often provide you with this perk. If you are someone that wants a 100% remote job, you have the freedom to live, and work wherever you want in the world- as long as you have a halfway decent internet connection. You can also usually enjoy flexibility when it comes to working hours as well as many companies that allow remote working, will let workers set their own hours as long as deadlines are met.

4. Good money, great benefits

If you are good at your job and have a strong work ethic, you can expect to enjoy a pretty good rate of pay. Remote employment gives you a wider variety of companies to work for and with, so to a certain extent you can pick and choose the ones with the highest rates and best benefits. If you choose to be a freelancer, you can also command a pretty decent rate, picking and choosing between those that can and can’t afford you.

5. It is creative

You might not think of developing and coding when someone says the word “creative” but programming is actually a highly creative profession. Each time you start programming, you are creating something new from scratch and every time you write a programme, you are learning something new. This is a job that is never boring and you can solve problems, be creative, build exciting new projects, and most importantly challenge yourself- not many jobs can say that!
