7 IT innovations that could define 2019

7 IT innovations that could define 2019

What are some technology trends that will influence industries and consumers this year?

1. 5G

The internet’s been buzzing about the next generation of wireless for a while now. The world will be slow to adopt 5G, since it requires massive infrastructure upgrades, but 2019 should be when we will know when and where 5G will be deployed.

2. AI

We will soon start to see Artificial Intelligence embedded in more devices, public utilities and infrastructure projects. Voice will continue becoming the primary interface between humans and machines — just use it to ask a digital assistant (like Siri, Alexa and so on) what you need, rather than downloading an app to do it for you.

3. AR and VR

So far, augmented reality and virtual reality have mainly been used in gaming, like Pokémon Go, for example. Soon, we will start seeing applications in other fields such as education, engineering design, manufacturing, space exploration and healthcare.

4. Quantum Computing

The race toward building the first fully-functional quantum computer (also called supercomputer) has started. Quantum computers will most like be a cloud service in the near future rather than on-premise machines.

5. Blockchain technology

Blockchain enables transactional transparency across a variety of business functions. Whether it will adopted by the majority of corporations – and if the many global blockchain projects get off the ground - remains to be seen.

6. Autonomous Devices

Robots, drones, and autonomous vehicles are some of the innovations used to automate functions that were previously performed by people.

7. Digital Ethics and Privacy

Digital ethics and privacy are topics that are receiving more and more attention from private individuals, associations and government organizations. The winning organisations will be those that proactively address these concerns and are able to earn their customers’ trust.
